What is the role of gas between two sections of rail tracks ?These gaps would make the ride rougher and could be dangerous .Can you offer a solution that would do away with the gaps?

as the temperature increases the metal tracks tend to expand and in this expansion the ride can become rough. Hence these gaps make the ride still comfortable even after expansion
