Pitcher plants have Insectivorous mode of nutrition which depends on insects for nitrogenous food. Its inner surface has hair directed downwards which helps plant to hold down insects to its bottom, so that it can mixed with digestive juices present in it.

When a pitcher plant captures an insect its downward pointing hairs do not allow the insect to climb back out against the hair and ultimately falls to the bottom of leaf and gets digested by the juices present there
