1.It softens the food.

2. It makes the food acidic for proper functioning of enzymes.

3.stopes the action of salivary amylase in the stomach.

4. Kills the bacteria present in food.

5. Converts inactive Pepsi and Renin ti active forms.

i.e. Pepsinogen(inactive) to Pepsin (active) .

and Prorenin(inactive) to Renin (active).
