What is the role of iodine in the refining of Titanium? Write equation also?

Iodine is heated with titanium to form a volatile compound which on further heating decomposes to give pure titanium
Ti (impure)+2l2+Heat=Til4
Til4+Heat=Ti (impure)+2l2
