What is the role of leguminous plant in a fertile soil?

The role of leguminous plant in a fertile soil is that when people grow crops like wheat, paddy etc the soil gets denourished in some nutrients like nitrogen. So leguminous plants help to gain back the nutrients lost. This is also called crop rotation
