Louisa Mebbin was a paid companion ofMrs. Packletide who assisted her in the tiger hunting . Her role in the story was nothing more than that of a maid however she ends up having the last laugh by extracting a hefty sum from Mrs. Packletide. She does so by threatening to expose the secret that the tiger that Mrs. Packletide had so 'fearlessly hunted' was not killed by her bullet but the sound of it.
