The main use of microbes in the field of genetic engineering is as "Vector". Vectors means that some microbes carry the gene of interest to the target genome! The recombinant DNAof the vector is called plasmid DNA.
Munching bacteria is the genetically engineered bacteria that are used for cleaning oil spills. These bacteria are produced by modifying the DNA structure of the bacterium called Bacillus thuringiensis.
