Nitrogen is important because it is used by the plants in the form of nitrates and nitrites .
Nitrogen play a important role in air as it covers 78% of air .

The role of nitrogen in air are as follows:-

  • Nitrogen is present and required by each and every cell of our body and hence it helps to sustain life.
  • It prevents combustion as it is non-combustible unlike oxygen.Otherwise if you even lighted a candle the air would have caught fire.This is prevented by nitrogen.
  • It prevents oxidation
  • It reacts only in extreme pressure and temperature.So it contributes to the inertness of the atmosphere.
