The role of nitrogen in air are as follows:-
- Nitrogen is present and required by each and every cell of our body and hence it helps to sustain life.
- It prevents combustion as it is non-combustible unlike oxygen.Otherwise if you even lighted a candle the air would have caught fire. This is prevented by nitrogen.
- It prevents oxidation
- It reacts only in extreme pressure and temperature. So it contributes to the inertness of the atmosphere.
Hope it helps you.
