The opposition party acts as a barrier to the works done by the ruling party. They ask the ruling party about the works they are doing in a state or a country. They also take feedback from the people about how the new development will help them. They ask the ruling party about why are they doing those and also asks about how to overcome the problems the state/ country is facing. No opposition party in an assembly will end the republican status of a state/country.
