Definition-
☪ Self Help Group (SHG) is a small and independent group of 10-20 women-men.
☪ They come together and form a small group for solving their common financial problems or for attaining some common goal.

SHGs helps the poors to overcome the borrowings or to pay for the borrowings.
SHGs helps to improve the savings of the small community.
SHGs helps the poor womens to be self independent and empowers them.
It is seen that mostly women's are the participants of this group and women active participation also helps the rural areas women's to develop and their development automatically affects our nation India which means growth/development of our nation.

SGHs were started and formed in 1975. In India, NABARD initiated in 1986-1987.

Answer- The helplessness of poor people (women/men) led to the formation of SHG. The absence of institutional credits available in the rural area has led to the establishment of SHGs.
