What is the role of saliva in the digestion of food 0th science?

It helps in breaking down starch...very first stage of digestion of carbohydrates like starch happen because of salivary amaylase...the enzyme present in saliva

the saliva contains enzyme called ptyalin or salivary amylase ithelps breaking down of carbohydrates complex to simpler ones

the saliva is secreted by three pairs of salivary glands
