saliva is secreted by 3 pairs of salivary glands......present in the mouth
- the parotid gland
- the submandibular gland
- the sublingual gland
saliva contains some enzyme tyalin that converts starch into maltose( a form of sugar)
the food is mixed thoroughly with saliva and moved around the mouth while chewing by the muscular tongue
