Saliva contains a enzyme (biocatalyst) called salivary amylase which helps in breaking down of starch into simple sugar.

1. Saliva is secreted by three pair of salivary glands present in the mouth.

2.They are parotid,lingual and sub-maxillary glands.

3.Human saliva contains an enzyme called amylase (ptyalin) that converts starch into maltose.

4.The food is mixed thoroughly with the saliva and moved around the mouth while chewing by the muscular tongue.
