Hey !!

In the extraction of copper, silica (SiO₂) acts as a ''flux''. It reacts with FeO and removes it as the slag (FeSiO₃).

      FeO + SiO₂ -----> FeSiO₃

                 (Flux)         (Slag)

Good luck !!
