Potassium dichromate (K2Cr2O7) is a strong oxidising agent and hence the sulfur dioxide (SO2) gets oxidised to sulfate (SO42−), the Cr+6 in potassium dichromate (orange coloured) gets reduced to Cr+3 in chromium sulphate (Cr2(SO4)3) which is green coloured compound.
