The full form of SSA is SARVA SHIKSHA ABHIYAN. SSA came into existence with a target to universalize elementary education by community - ownership of the school system.

It tries to meet the demand for quality basic education all over the country.

During the year 2000 there was a continuous effort towards organizing programmes and approaches concerning

realization of the goals of Education for all - the country has launched the Sarva

Shiksha Abhiyan.

This provides a body under which all the programmes related to Universalisation of Elementary Education have been merged.

Some initiatives have been taken for improving the quality of education provided in the primary schools.
