Stomach is a bag like structure that forms a major part of digestive system.

Stomach secretes three things in the gastric juice:-

1) HCl

2) Mucus

3) Pepsin enzyme
________________________________

 \boxed{ \bf{hydrochloric \: acid}}

✔ HCl kills bacteria present in the food.

✔ It provides acidic medium for the action of pepsin enzyme.

 \boxed{ \bf{mucus}}

✔ Mucus prevents the lining of the stomach from being corroded by the strong acid HCl.

 \boxed{ \bf{pepsin}}

✔ Pepsin helps in partial digestion of proteins.

Thus the partial digestion of food takes place in stomach which is directed to other parts of digestive system for their complete digestion.

What is the role of stomach in digestion?

Good question,

Here is your perfect answer!

Stomach plays a major role in digestion. Stomach is a bag like structure. Food is passed from oesophagus to stomach.

The inner lining of stomach contains gastric glands. It secrete gastric juices.

Gastric juices contains hydrochloric acid, pepsin, renin, mucus etc.

Hydrochloric acid kills germs and activates pepsin to act on proteins.

Pepsin helps in breakdown of proteins into more simpler proteoses and peptones.

Renin acts on soluble milk protein and form casein.

In stomach food is converted into partially digestive mass called as chyme.
