1 - It decide to organisms that which to enter or which to not
2- It is a boundary for out of the cell , inside the cell.

Cell membrane is not only responsible for the protection of the cell but also plays a vital role in :
1) Exocytosis and Endocytosis that is transportation in the cells.
2) And is responsible for the Particle's movement in and out of the cell.
3) It doesn't allow everything inside the cell, that's why it's selectively permeable.
