The role of the police is to conduct a 360 degree investigation in a fair and impartial manner.

They must investigate and gather evidence in a transparent manner. Any material they gather that might undermine the prosecution of a suspect or assist in that persons defence must also be gathered and disclosed.

Once the evidence has been gathered it must be presented in a balanced and impartial way for the crown Prosecution Service to make a charging decision or present this evidence in court for them to decide a person guilt.
