Prime Minister is the the Head of the Government of India and has a direct executive control over the 97 items in the Union List.

Prime Minister heads the Cabinet of Ministers and has absolute freedom in selecting and firing any minister. The cabinet ministers control the various ministries (Defense, Transportation, Finance, Foreign Affairs).

PM can ask the President to dissolve the Parliament any time and call for new elections.

All sessions of the Parliament are set by the Prime Minister (technically he advices the President in setting these dates).

Prime Minister heads NITI Aayog (earlier Planning Commission ) that makes broad economic policies for India. 

PM can ask the President to declare emergency over the whole or a part of India. State of Emergency in India

Intelligence agencies such as the RAW directly report to the Prime Minister. It is PMs reponsibility to keep apprised of what is going on across the globe.
