It holds the torque with the DC motor in a reverse way. Due to the split ring the coil always moves which is perpendicular to the plane and always goes over the magnetic field. So, it rotates continuously so, the electricity is produced.

The splitting ring in an electric motor , also known as commutator , reverses the direction of current flowing through the coil after every half rotation of the coil . Due to this , the coil continues to rotate in the same direction .
