Mobilization therapies include massage, traction and manipulations with and without a thrust. They are in general safe therapies but require knowledge, experience and judgement for proper application. They must compete effectively with no therapy or placebos from the standpoint of cost, medical manpower resources and above all efficacy to justify their clinical applications. Currently it appears that all classes of mobilizing therapies including manipulations have a place in medical practice. Clearly much research is needed to better define that place and a concerted effort is needed to determine what medical management manpower resources should be utilized in the application of mobilization therapies.
