The small, finger- like projections present inside the small intestine are known as villi. The function of villi is to absorb the digested food. The villi are also present in the curves of the intestine, hence increasing the are of absorption. The villi are connected to the blood capillary network. When the digested food is absorbed by the villi, it sends the absorbed portion to the capillary network. Then the food is spread out in the entire body, providing energy, via the blood.
