What is the role of villi in the walls of placenta?

The villi in the walls of placenta are used for movements of materials by maternal blood to the foetus. As the placenta is made from chorion so is called chronic placenta has villi for movement of waste material of foetus outside and it helps for digestion and respiration processes also.

The villi have rich supply of blood capillaries and it is disc shaped too (finger like chorionic villi )
