One of the most important features of civil disobedience movement was the large participation of women. During Gandhi ji’s Salt march thousands of women participated in March is manufactured and sold and picketed foreign clothes and liquor shops. Many went to jail.

In urban areas these women were from high caste educated familyExample Sarojini Naidu, Kasturba Gandhi and many others. In ruler areas women came from rich peasants household. Bengal being the nerve centre of women education in India increase the women’s participation in nationalism. In 1930 women rallied before Bethune college Kolkata in support of Gandhiji’s civil disobedience movement.

In Mumbai large section of women of Gujarat community was influenced by Gandhis idea listen and participated in national movement. But all these participation was symbolic as women did not hold any position of authority for a long time.
