The main role of zero in number systems is being the additive identity.
A + 0 = A.
A - 0 = A.

It also gives us additive inverse. A + (-A) = 0.

Now about 1.

1 is the multiplicative identity.
A * 1 = A.
Multiplicative identity or reciprocal is also obtained from dividing unity.
A * 1/A = 1.

shetriyas: confusing answer bro
kvnmurty: 0-A is additive inverse of A. ... 1/A is multiplicative inverse.
kvnmurty: 1 and 0 are used for counting in every number system.

If there were no zero, there were no numbers like
10,100,1000,10000,100000,100000 etc.

If there were no 1 there were no numbers like
10,11,111,100,121,10000,151,123121 etc.

Both plays an important role im Mathematics
