The room with pillars in a mosque is known as "Musalla" ( place for prayer or prayer hall) an ample open space. It is deliberately left bare as the worshipers sit, kneel and bow directly o the floor. Along the walls and pillars of the prayer hall, there are usually bookshelves to hold copies of the Quran, religious reading materials and prayer rugs.
