The rpm of a washing machine indicated is the maximum spinning speed the motor is capable of reaching.

Most top loaders operate at 700–800rpm. In front loaders you have machine that operate at as high as 1400–1600rpm. The word High is related to the mechanical stress the clothes undergo during spinning.

So in short for safety of your clothes and reasonable time to try use the following thumb rule.

Delicate garments - 600–800rpm

Mixed garments 1000 rpm

Strong cotton and denim 1200–1400rpm
