The poem Abou Ben Adam is one of Leigh's masterpieces, yet it does not have any extensive settings.

The only indication of the settings in the entire poem is from the words 'night' and 'room' which refers to Abou Ben Adam's own room.

Other than that, there are no direct clues. A reading of the poem indicates that the poem is set in Abou's room where he is asleep, presumably on a bed. It is night time when angel appears.

Considering the element of holiness and divinity in the poem, it can also be said that the poem is a fantasy based poem. The poet has imagined the meeting with the angel and hence the settings are not realistic, but fantastical. It is also fantastical since it is based on the folklore of an ancient Islamic saint. There is no guarantee of folklores being true. There are strong elements of fantasy in such stories too.

Interestingly, the poet does not spend much time on establishing the settings, but lets the content make an impression on the reader.
