Most of Leacock's works are set in and around Canada. The setting of my lost dollar also seems to be in Canada and a few places in the U.S. the narrator's friend, Major Todd, is a member of the university club of Montreal, which is situated in Montreal, Canada.
There is not much of action actually taking place in the story but it is described through the narration. There are references to Hamilton, Bermuda where Todd has spent three weeks, but no description of place, other than the extreme temperature of the place has been presented. There is also a mention of Detroit athletic club, which is in Detroit, the largest city in U.S. State of Michigan.
