Mercury shows convex meniscus becoz adhesive force(b/w glass & mercury molecules) is less than cohesive force (b/w molecules of Hg).

Water shows cocave meniscus becoz adhesive force(b/w water molecules &glass) is more than cohesive force(b/w water molecules).
