Given : 20mm diameter pin having a shear stress of 1000Mpa

To Find : Shear load (in kN)

Solution:

Shear stress =    Shear load / Cross sectional area

Shear stress =  1000Mpa  =  1000 * 10⁶ Pa

Pa = N/m²

1000 * 10⁶  = F /  A

F =   Shear load in N

A = Cross sectional area in m²

20mm diameter  => 10 mm radius  =  10/ 1000  m   = 1/100  m

A = πr²  =  3.14 ( 1/100)²  = 3.14 * 10⁻⁴  m²

1000 * 10⁶  = F /  A

=> F = 1000 * 10⁶ * 3.14 * 10⁻⁴

=> F = 1000 * 314  N

=> F = 314 kN

Shear load (in kN)  = 314
