GIven :

Rydberg constant = RH

Ion = Be^{+3}

To find :

The shortest wavelength line in the Balmer series .

Solution :

1/λ = RH * z * z ( \frac{1}{n_1 ^ {2}} - \frac{1}{n_2 ^ {2}} )

where , z is the atomic number ,

n_1 = 2 for balmer series ,

and , n_2 = ∞ for shortest wavelength

now ,

1/λ = RH * 4 * 4 * ( 1/4 )

=> 1/λ = 4 RH

=> λ = 1 / 4 RH

The shortest wavelength line in the Balmer series of Be^{+3} ion is 1 / 4 RH .
