Archaeopteryx was an organism which had feathers and a heavy jaw, along with scales and claws, showing the traits of both reptiles and birds. Archaeopteryx (Archea: old; pteris: feather/ wing) is considered as the common ancestors of all birds.
This organism existed about 150 million years ago and its fossils are the proof that birds have originated from reptiles. It forms an important link between two classes in the phylum Chordata.
