Jallianwala Bagh tragedy was one of the causes that led to bthe non-cooperation movement. The innocent massacre of thousands of souls had shocked the entire nation and they were expecting an apology from Sir Dyer and his troops but it was not so.Angered by the ignorance of British,Gandhiji started the Non-Cooperation movement in order to recieve an apology for the evil doings at amritsar. The significance lies in the fact that this became one of the major stepping stones in our fight for freedom.

Hope this helps :)

On April 13,1919 a large but peaceful group of people had gathered at the Jallianwala Bagh  for protesting against the arrest of leaders like Dr Satya Pal and Dr Saifudfin Kitchlu.

General Dyer, the government general at that time led the British forces towards the bagh. It had a single entrance and Dyer ordered open firing at the helpless men, women and children. Thousands were massacred.

This act horrified not only Punjab but the entire country. Not only were Indian leaders shocked at this inhumane activity but also the British government officials. There was a country wide uprising. General Dyer was suspended. No remedy was done for the Punjab wrongs and this indifferent attitude became a cause for the staring of the Non Co-operation Movement by Gandhiji In India.
