This cell division can be for growth, maturity, or to repair/replace damaged cells. Meiosisis bascially required for reproduction to take place. Meiosis produces gametes, which are required for sexual reproduction. Thus, mitosis is important for the individual's health and wellbeing.

Answer:

Significance of Meiosis:

1. Formation of Gametes-

Meiosis produces gametes which

take part in Sexual

reproduction.

2. Maintenance of Chromosome

number- During sexual

reproduction, the haploid

gametes resulting from meiosis,

unite to form Diploid Zygote.

Thus the chromosome number is

restored.

3. Introduction of variation-

New combinations of genetic

material takes place during

crossing over. This brings about

variations in the Offspring.
