Meiosis, the process by which gametes are formed,   literally “creation of gametes.” The specific type of meiosis that forms sperm is called spermatogenesis, while the formation of egg cells, or ova, is called oogenesis.
both these processes are important and essential as these processes would not occur in respective individuals,there would be no gametes formation.As a result fertilization would not take place.
