Plants are essential for animal kindom because they are the source of food and energy to animals as they can not make their own food by themselves and have holozoic mode of nutrition.

Herbivorous animals need plants for their nutrition and food. While carnivorous eat other animals. So if plants did not exist then herbivorous would not survive and without herbivorous carnivorous will not survive. That's why plant is important for animal kingdom.
