They regulate the movement of molecules from the nucleus to the cytoplasm, and vice versa. In most eukaryotic cells, the nucleus is enclosed by this nuclear membrane in order to separate it from the cytoplasm.

the significant of pores present on the nuclear membrane is that they allow transport of water soluble molecules across the nuclear envelope. RNA and ribosomes move out of the nucleus, where as carbohydrate, lipids and proteins move into the nucleus.
