We need to respect the laws and rights in a democratic country because, it helps us to make the country a better place. The laws should be conserved and protected because the laws help everyone to go accordingly and get equal rights. As you know, everyone is equal in the eyes of the law, we should respect it. One should not break the laws and rules or he/she might get a severe punishment.

A democratic government cannot do whatever it likes simply because it has won an election. It has to respect some basic rules. In particular it has to respect some guarantees to the minorities. Every major decision has gone through a series of consultation. Every office bearer has certain rights and responsibilities assigned by the constitution and the law. Each is accountable not but only to law to other independent officials.
