The significance of rule of law and respect for rights in a democratic country.
In democracy, people participate in the administration and the government is run by the elected representatives of the people. So, democratic form of government is responsible to the people and cannot act against their wishes. Democratic form of government enhances the dignity of an individual.
(a) Democracy is run on the public opinion. All the laws and decisions are made according to public Opinion. , Democracy is beneficial for the nation. It is a government for the welfare of the people. Democracy protects the rights of people and lays emphasis on equality and liberty. Maximum liberty is given to citizens in the democratic form of government.
(b) In ’Democracy’ all citizens are treated alike/ equal without any discrimination based on caste, creed, sex, wealth; religion or birth. Laws are applied to all equally and there is no privileged class in the eyes of law.
(c) Government does not' interfere in the personal life of the people. In democracy the government is flexible. So, democracy in true sense is a government of the people for the people and by the people. The democratic
form of government truly enhances the dignity of an individual.
