Answer :-
First of all, what is sexual reproduction ?
Ans - The production of new living organisms by the combination of genetic materials from the two individuals of different types (sexes), is termed as sexual reproduction.
In the most higher organisms, one sex (gender) produces small motile gametes (male) which travel to fuse with the larger stationary gametes (female) produced by the other sex.
The significance of sexual reproduction is as follows :-
- In sexual reproduction, two sexes i.e. male and female take part in the process of reproduction.
- In sexual reproduction, Testes in males produce Sperms (male germ-cells) and and the Ovaries in females produce Ova (female germ-cells).
- In sexual reproduction, there is a high chance of occurrence of variations due to new combinations of genes during the process of fertilization.
- In sexual reproduction, the daughter organisms (progeny) are genetically different from the parent organisms.
