What is the significance of the date chosen for our constitution to come into force?

even though the final draft of constitution was passed on 26 November 1949, still we celebrate our Republic day on 26 January because  congress declared purna  swaraj (complete independence ) on 26 January , 1930 in their Lahore session. Congress volunteers hoisted Indian national flag in different parts of India. Till 15 August 1947, 26 January was celebrated as Independence Day by the Congress.

The Constituent Assembly adopted the Constitution on 26 November 1949. It came into force on 26 January 1950. This date was chosen to commemorate the Purna Swaraj declaration of independence of 1930. It is celebrated as Republic Day every year.
