An archipelago, sometimes called an islandgroup or island chain, is a chain, cluster or collection of islands. The word archipelago is derived from the Greek ἄρχι- – arkhi- and πέλαγος – pélagos through the Italian arcipelago.

Island cluster is termed as archipelago and there are quite a number of important archipelagos in Asia.
However, Malay Archipelago is the largest one that is located between Indian Ocean and Pacific Ocean, consisting of more than 25,000 islands.
Singapore, Indonesia, East Timor, Brunei, the Philippines, East Malaysia and part of New Guinea are the prime countries of this largest island cluster of the world, which is fourth in terms of the numbers of islands.
