The terms sovereign, socialist, secular, democratic, republic in the Preamblesuggests the nature of the state. The ideals of justice, liberty, equality, fraternity reflects the objectives of theConstitution. It also contains November 26, 1949 as the date of adoption of the Indian Constitution.

Preamble's significance stands in the fact that it provides us an insight into the minds of the framers of our Constitution.

It helps us to understand the essence of any provision of Indian Constitution.

Further, it signifies some characteristics feature of India as a nation. Some of them are-:

1- Indian state derives its power from the people of India.
2-India is a sovereign country - not subjected to or liable to take orders from anyone outside the country.
3-India is socialist country, having socialist tendencies, committed towards the welfare of people.
4-India is a secular country, where all religions are treated equally.
5-India is a democratic country, biggest democracy of the world.
