What is the significance of the revolt of 1857..??

It was the first major revolt in the country in which almost the whole country participated. It started as the mutiny of soldiers ended with the mughal emperor Bahadur shah in Myanmar and the revolt a flop ,but the British aknowleged us ,so all was not lost ,in the history of the Indian struggle against British it was a major win.
