Larger cells have more volume, so for any molecules entering the cell, they have to travel further, and therefore it takes longer for a cell to get nutrients and expel waste.

In a smaller cell, this problem is for the most part absent. Molecules can move in and out of the cell faster, so the cell can get nutrients faster and get rid of waste faster.

HOPE this helps ☺️

Cell size is limited by a cell's surface area to volume ratio. A smaller cell is more effective and transporting materials, including waste products, than a larger cell. The larger a cell gets, the more difficult it is for nutrients and gases to move in and out of the cell.
