The “major lines” of latitude that have world-wide significance are the Equator, the Tropics of Cancer and Capricorn, and the Arctic and Antarctic Circles.

Eg.

The Equator is the only line of latitude that divides the Earth in half, and it is the line of latitude where the length of the day and night are both always 12 hours.

The Tropic of Cancer is most northerly latitude where the Sun ever passes directly overhead, which happens during the day of the June Solstice.

Answer:

They represent imaginary line son the globe.

Explanation:

  • Lines of latitudes and the longitudes runs constantly parallel from east to west and then circles around the equator. Making the 0 degrees as the longest latitude. Any point on the earth's surface is given in reference to the latitude and the longitudinal context. As they specify the precise location of the place located in the world.
  • They form a network of graticules and these intersect at the 90 degrees of the prime meridian longitude. Thus there precise reference needs to have complete knowledge of the gravitational fields of the earth.
  • Starting from the top the Arctic circle is at 66° 34 north of equator, the tropic of cancer is at  23° 26′ north of equator, the tropic of Capricorn at the 23° 26′ S, and the Antarctic circle is at  66° 34 South of the equator these attitudes thus demarcate the pressure and the temperature zone on the surface of the earth.
