Sponge is a solid but it is compressible as their are minute holes between it . Whereas , Gas is the state in which force of attraction between its particles is negligible and their is not a fixed volume also .
OR
The similarity between sponge and gaseous state is that their particles of matter have more intermolecular space.

here is your answer
gases are highly compressible in nature and the don't have fixed volume of its own and the intermolecular space is also very high while the sponge is also compressible in nature as the intermolecular space is also enough for compression.
glad to help you
