Let the total mass of the compound be 100

Mass of carbon = 80g

Mass of Hydrogen = 20 g

Moles of carbon = 80÷12 = 6.67

Moles of Hydrogen = 20÷1 =20

Ratio

Carbon = 6.67÷6.67 = 1

Hydrogen = 20÷6.67=3

Simplest / Empirical formula = CH3 (Molar Mass 15)

Molecular Formula = C2H6 (Molar Mass 30)
